Location

North FrontThe Château d’Alogny lies just south of the Loire Valley between the great historic cities of Tours and Poitiers.  It is located on the D5 midway (five kilometers) between the town of La Roche Posay, and the village of Lésigny-sur-Creuse.

The nearest large town, Chatellerault, is a 20-minute drive away, and can be reached by TGV (high-speed train) from Paris (Montparnasse) in an hour and twenty minutes.  There is also TGV service to Poitiers direct from the airport (CDG).

RyanAir has regular flights between London (Stansted) and Poitiers (Biard), often at remarkably low fares.

Rental cars are available in Chatellerault, Poitiers and at the airport, but we suggest you first check www.novacarhire.com for the lowest rates.

How to Reach Us.

If traveling by train from Paris, take the TGV (high speed train) from Gare Montparnasse to Châtellerault, which is midway between Tours and Poitiers on the route to Bordeaux.  The journey takes 1 hour 20 minutes.  Alogny is a 20-minute drive from Châtellerault.   NB  Make sure you go to Châtellerault and not Châteauroux!

Automobile rental is available in Châtellerault.  Avis apparently provides more reliable service than Hertz.  If you plan to arrive after the office is closed, Avis keys can be left at the station by prior arrangement.  It is more economical to make your car reservations before arriving in France.

If flying from the UK to Poitiers on RyanAir (often very economical) note that Budget Rent-a-car have an airport office and offer exceptionally good rates.  Other rental services are located in town, are much less convenient and significantly more costly.

For those driving from England, the most convenient crossing is via the Portsmouth-Caen route.  The night ferry arrives in Normandy early in the morning and one can be at Alogny in time for lunch.  The cost of a berth on the ferry is minimal and well worth considering.

How to Find us

West FrontIf you are driving, head for La Roche Posay, some 20 km east of Chatellerault.  Leaving the main square, go towards the archway leading into the old town.  Do not go through it, but turn left just before on the D5, signposted to Lésigny-sur-Creuse.   Continue across the ring road and past the hippodrome.  At the little unsigned cross-roads 4.5 km from La Roche Posay turn left, and immediately left again up the lane (signposted to Alogny).   If you come to the hamlet of Les Froux, you have gone past the turning, about 300 yards too far towards Lésigny.

The château stands at the top of the tiny hamlet of Alogny, where the road becomes a green lane into the woods.  Follow the short driveway left, around to the front of the house, where there is ample parking

Alogny is centrally located and enjoys a mild climate, generally free of temperature extremes - as evidenced by bananas growing nearby.
