The  BCP Cultural Programs

Bali's distinctive cultural heritage is under threat from television.  Music and dance are particularly at risk.

To help foster these traditional art forms among the young, the Bali Children’s Project has created a number of programs.   In North Bali we have helped in building a studio for a particularly talented teacher, who travels long distances with his wife to teach in remote communities.   We have also paid the tuition costs of poor children and provided the necessary costumes.  We would welcome the donation of addition funds to extend this program to other parts of Bali.

The BCP Children's Gamelan

Through the wonderful generosity of  Hammerax, designers and manfacturers of custom percussion instruments, we now have the instruments for a full gamelan orchestra.   With this we have been able to start both a boys and a girls performance group.  These groups now play at temple ceremonies and at local hotels.   A second gamelan has now been built and is based in Klung Kung.  We look forward to welcoming John Stannard, the founder and president of Hammerax, when he is next in Bali, when he will play with the BCP Children's Gamelan.

Art Program

From time to time we welcome volunteers willing to share their talents and teach art classes

For three years the BCP collaborated with university researchers in Zurich, Switzerland in a study of children's art and creativity.   The fieldwork is now finished and we await the detailed report of their findings.

BCP Children's Art

The artwork featured below  was produced by children we have supported, and formed part of the Starship Hiroshima art party in Japan in 2003.  The originals are available for sale to benefit both the artist and the Bali Children's Project.   Please email us for details.
